In the spring of 2009, Sussex Golf School and Hassocks Golf Club were involved in the creation of ‘The Hassocks Schools Golf Project’ (HSGP). The objectives were to introduce golf to the schoolchildren of Hassocks and the surrounding area and then make the pathways into the sport more accessible. HSGP worked with The Mid Sussex Schools Sport Partnership to help deliver Government guidelines that all schoolchildren should participate in 5 hours of sport per week.

HSGP delivered Tri-Golf taster sessions to over 800 children during April 2009. Following the success of the taster sessions, after schools clubs were set up at 5 local schools. These were part-funded by a grant from Sport Unlimited. Sussex Golf School at Hassocks Golf Club delivered the sessions at Windmills and Albourne Schools. These were given over a 10 week period, the first 8 at the school and the final 2 at Hassocks Golf Club. This was an ideal opportunity to introduce young golfers to a Golf Club environment.

All sessions were designed to follow The Golf Foundations Junior Passport Scheme. The Junior Golf Passport is a national learning programme. It includes a series of achievable targets and introduces the rules and etiquette of golf. The emphasis is on having fun while learning. It is a comprehensive, progressive, structured programme designed to help young people learn about playing the game of golf.
